$2,400 doesn't really buy much these days. A couple meals at L'Atelier or Le Bernadin, a .5 carat Asscher Diamond, 24 random rub and tugs in the Valley, no not that Valley. Regardless, buying a decent descent bike for such is rare. Enter the Kona CoilAir, seems to be a low cost fav. Not that I really care about freeriding, seems kinda dumb to me, but here you go, don't say we don't write about bikes. Here's someone who likes that bike via MTBR:
Over all, I love this thing. It can do everything pretty well, and rules at bike parks on 4x, slopestyle type stuff, north shore stunts, and extremely tech downhill single track. Kona also manages to spec great bikes for the price, so great value.
And some drawbacks: The rear suspension is extremely linear. The choice is pretty much between plush absorption or pump it up stiffer than preffered to make big drops to flatter landings a bit better. Luckily the dhx 3.0 bottoms smoothly and the boost valve helps it to ramp up on high speed hits. ** the stock maxxis advantage tire on my bike rubs on the frame when it bottoms out. Stinks that kona didn't think to fix this, but a tire with a shorter casing will do the trick** Seat tube angle is a little slack for serious xc stuff, but moving the seat forward helps a bit.

Sushi is indeed a good thing. Nothing like getting raw fish and paying a ton for it because it's crafted by master sushi chefs. Little do you realize it's a Chi-knees dood carving up a slab from Costco. True that. Regardless, sushi is expensive for a reason, the cuts are supposedly fresh and perfectly cut, quality and skill are key here. As an environmental issue, the sustainability of land animals will diminish and as many people turn to other sources of proteins - fish are a healthy and relatively cheap channel. However, fish farms are known polluters, destroying estuaries and other close to shore placements with dense concentrations of feed and fish poo. One could even argue the nutritional value of fish raised this way, for salmon, dye is often added to get the red colour. Kona Blue Farms is an innovative way to farm fish. The short - large net pens are floating in the ocean, offshore, fish are more vigourous, healthier, tastier. That's the argument. Huge investment, but seems to be working, read more here. Kona Blue was founded in 2001 by Dr. Dale Sarver and Neil Anthony Sims, marine biologists and longtime Kona residents, who believed there was an opportunity for sustainably managed open ocean aquaculture of high-value, sushi-quality fish. After three years of research and development, Kona Blue received an investment infusion in 2004 from Thomas McCloskey, President and CEO of Cornerstone Holdings, in Aspen, Colorado, and other investors from the Mainland and Hawaii.
Kona Blue is now the first integrated hatchery and offshore fish farm in the country, an advantage the company will strengthen as it expands in Hawaii and beyond.

Instead of doing a shotgun approach, let's delve into types and segments here for a certain item, get granular as the parlance goes these days - today is bikes. Let's start, shall we? If you drink soy milk and you're not lactose intolerant; if you subscribe to dwell magazine; if you can give the three major points why the Kirkegaardian teological leap of faith fails apart within a(n) Hegelian construct, then the Strida is for you - the climb_ca choice, tho I'm positive he doesn't even know if the last point is even in English - the Strida is a statement that says you are trend-craved, systemically outspoken on social issues (while not really knowing any), and always feel it necessary to inject your moral crap into anything. If you are a Chai type (but only fair trade); drive a Subaru Outback; have been to SE Asia and continue to wear your two bulls (Red Bull) baseball shirt; plus ... immediately think of Wuthering Heights when the name Heathcliff is uttered, then the Ellsworth Truth is for you. The Truth exudes weekend warrior and luxury appreciation, but not over the top Sybaritic tastes like cashmere carpet for your Escalade, but showing a certain sensibility that your little tushie needs the dual. Truth, be said, get it? Zing, Truth*! I've ridden an Ellsworth Truth and dayam, it is indeed a plush ride, tracking is superb on the back tire and the lockout stops the catepillar, however, it's expensive and still way heavier than a hardtail. Plus, while I liked Wuthering Heights, I'm more of a Thomas Hardy dood myself. And finally, if you owned a horse, before your truck, before your car, and now have a jet; if you wake up at 10 and go, 'bloody mary? hmmm, tasty, but nah, it's late enough for bourbon;' and if you know that 71 is 69 with two fingers in the butt, then this Kona is for you.

Bike Hugger got a look at the new Kona Ute cargo bike that's been all the buzz in the "utility bike" segment. Yeah, utility bikes. Anyway, Huggie gave them a thumbs up. A few of his thoughts: "The ute’s a longbike: a 29er (update: 700c x 47) with a giant rack built in capable of carrying 4 panniers, a couple of passengers, or just about anything else you can strap to it." "This bike’s got no detectable lateral flex, even loaded with groceries and kids." "The long wheel base and gentle geometry contribute to a very stable
ride with no harshness over bumps. Given this I was surprised at how
nimble the ride was, slaloming the local playground went great."
Only negatives were the balance point was a bit far back for easy maneuvering when carrying and no handles for passengers. Read the whole review on of the Kona Utne on Bike Hugger.

oh oh it's magic when i'm with you oh oh it's magic you know it's true got a hold on you How stoked is Rick Ocasek to have landed
Paulina? Guy's one of the ugliest guys in the music business,
yet...Paulina. *Sigh. This post isn't really about Paulina, but it probably should be. Alas, it's actually about the new Kona Magic Link that Blue Collar posted about: A moving suspension pivot to modify the suspension travel and bicycle
handling. They took their usual faux-bar linkage and added a link and
spring to the bottom pivot, allowing it to move in reaction to pedaling
and braking forces.
Not sure what that all that means, but it's definitely not as hot as Paulina. Go to the Kona site to watch the flash movie show you how the technology works. And notice the note below the graphic that says "THIS PRESENTATION FOR APPROVED, INTERNAL KONA USE ONLY - DO NOT SHARE."

We've got climbing, hiking, and fishing bloggers coming, but no biking bloggers. High likelihood that bikers stick to their biking blogs, but there have to be a few cross-trainers out there who might want to join. So I'm extending the invitation to biking blogs. Next, ski and snowboard bloggers. Thankfully, GoBloggers like Climb_Ca, eBomb (who happens to be in Moab this weekend mtn biking), ThatWilsonGirl, and Ochotona are cross-sport gods and goddesses so we can provide alternative outdoors sports color. But it's always good to see if there are people out there that know more than us. So come one, come all. Join us in Shasta Oct. 6 to Oct 8th. We know Interbike is the week before, but if you're in the neighborhood.. Related:

In keeping with my women's theme today, here is a review of a Kona's mountain bike designed specifically for women. It's got a cosmetics bag holder and a place to to put your freshette. I kid. From Dirt Rag: So what makes the Lisa a "woman's" bike? Aside from the shorter stem, Kona's supplied a slightly narrower handlebar (610mm vs. the 620-660mm bars on the rest of the family), a WTB Speed She Sport saddle and a lighter-weight spring in the Marzocchi MZ-3 100mm fork. Oh, and a paint job that's a different shade of blue than the Kikapu Deluxe.
