They've designed a process that takes bamboo fiber and combines it with cotton to make a super cool, absorbent, naturally antibacterial according to their website. The fabric uses 70% bamboo and 30% cotton which is a good thing since cotton is pretty hard on the environment, even the ballyhooed "organic" cotton. The goal is to make the fabric 100% bamboo. Good for them.

I've effectively bet my house and all my worldly belongings that others will agree....maybe a bit rash, but I completely believe in it. It's not hype, it really is a smart fabric. As well as general fitness and outdoor wear, we're selling a lot for the ski and boarding market. I walked across Greenland a couple of years ago with a team from the British Army, before I set up Bam, and my long sleeve tops outperform everything else in my performance fabric drawer, and it doesn't get smelly because it's antibacterial. Anyway, thanks for bringing Bam up in conversation, just wanted to answer the 'marketing hype' bit!
I have to agree with Dave, Bamboo fibre clothing is a great leap forward not only in sustainability but performance as well. I wear bamboo, and if you ask anyone else who wears bamboo I'm sure they'll agree that it 'does exactly what it says on the tin' to coin another marketing phrase.
On the subjest of performance, a friend of mine who is a professional cyclist gave a couple of our shirts a run through last week. While not quantatative, his feedback was extremely positive.
On Saturday he wore a 100% bamboo fine jersey tee under a Goretex wind jacket (I don't know the specifications on that particular jacket), and said that after a 110 mile ride that he was way dryer than when he wears one of his technical performance pieces of poly fabric. And I can tell you that this guy owns the best gear there is for his sport.
Sunday he rode with a 70/30 bamboo cotton blended tee and, surprisingly (to me) he said it performed as every bit as well as the 100% did.
As a partner in a company that has been making bamboo fiber apparel for over two years and as someone who wears the product as a base layer every single day, I know what the product does for me. But this was the first hard test that the product has been put through that I have firsthand information for and feedback from, and I was somewhat surprised that it performed as well as it did in that situation.
