On a recent gear test, well after a series of tests, 2 weeks of running
5 miles a day, I had the pleasure of running in X-socks, the
Run Sky Run socks. Apart from the
very European name, I am impressed by the X-Socks approach and dedication to my feet - and also the
naked chic on the homepage.
Our feet have to withstand different forces with every movement. We developed nearly 60 sportspecific models offering an optimal adjusted solution for almost every way of sports. That is why X-Socks® are custom-made for your demands.
Ok, so X-Socks is German, and lately I'm not big on anything even vaguely Tuetonic, but their research,
nay, passion for developing socks is unparalleled. So I ran, and ran, and ran in the RSR socks and I have to say, as much hype that preceded these socks, they are extremely supportive and comfortable - and apparently soon will be available in underwear as seen on the pic to the right. Apparently my socks have 12 different features to them, including the X-Cross Bandage (TM). Now imagine the X-Cross Bandage across your nuts. Sweet. From the Lambertz-Nichols Achilles Tendon Protector (TM) to the Toe Tip Protector and Traverse Air Flow Channel System (TM) - bleh, enough already, I would say these socks are incredible and are by far the best socks I've ever worn for sports. However, as is inherent in anything German, they are incredibly over-engineered and named and orange - but that's a different story. I can't help but think, over time and washings, these nifty little features will slowly age away, don't know, I'll keep you posted. However, the biggest drawback? Sweet Maria, these socks retail for $42 a pair, with some socks reaching $48. Exorbitant? Yes, but then again, didn't you just drop $480 on a cornflower blue Patagonia Gore-Tex jacket?
*UPDATE*
Many apologies to Stefan and the whole company of X-Socks, X-Socks is not German, they are Swiss. So the whole orange thing still holds, but the Teutonic reference is only partially correct. For more information about the longevity of X-Socks, visit their great WeBlog here.
