Car Hits Biker, Driver Injured

A driver in a Jeep Cherokee collided with a cyclist in California. The biker wasn't wearing a helmet, but came away from the accident with only minor injuries. The Jeep rolled a couple times and the driver was listed in critical condition.

"(The bicyclist) got a free lesson on why you should wear a helmet," authorities on the scene said.

Really? It sounds more like he received a free lesson on how to survive without wearing one. Obviously this wasn't a head-on crash. Likely the driver swerved to avoid the cyclist at the last moment and put her tipsy Jeep over the edge. The road is popular with cyclists for its 8-foot shoulders that offer plenty of room to ride.

If the cyclist got a free lesson in wearing a helmet ... I suppose the cyclist could respond "Yeah, but you should see the other guy."

Reading the story you linked to, I notice that (1) the bike was split in half, and (2) it was carbon fiber. I've heard a lot of scary anecdotes like that about CF bikes, and avoided them because of it.
