Even though you have a massive swath of green (Central Park) running through Manhattan and pockets of greenery here and there, NY can't really be considered a natural city. Try to find dirt, or a rock, it's not very easy on the concrete encased island. As mentioned many times before, steps are being taken to greenify NY. The newest attempt is the High Line Park in climb_ca's favourite area - the Meat Packing District. The MPD is more commonly known as the former site of Florent, various high end (?) clubs that cater to B&T types, and fashion boutiques that have driven out the neighbourhood businesses (Florent included) and flavour. Now the MPD is merely a martini, a cosmo, a flash of beav. The High Park is innovative in many ways, an elevated park, check out more here via NY Mag.
The High Line opened up to the public today, so naturally we sent our man on the street Tim Murphy to get people’s reactions. What did he find? One man called it “absolutely delightful.” Another described it as “post-apocalyptic.” This other dude even saw what might have been a naked woman in the window of the nearby Standard Hotel. Overall, a success! Watch the video to tour the gleaming, brand-new park (or to see Tim’s best Gene Kelly impersonation).
