The equivalent of a Kombi tour in the United States is hitting the road in a 50 foot RV towing an Explorer and an ATV behind you. That's probably why you'll never see any of these cool VW camper vans en masse in U.S. campgrounds any time soon. But if you're heading to Europe it's a different story. Seven Degrees West and Oconnors Campers rent old and new VW campers that sleep between 2 and 4, outiftted with friges, stoves, roof racks, CD players. Basically everything an American fits into an RV, but in a 1/4 of the size. Not sure if anyone does this in the U.S. but two brothers in the U.K. have built a huge business importing Mexican and Brazilian made VW vans and converting them into Kombis.
