We invite you to explore one of the country's most beautiful regions on walking trips. At Escalante Canyon Outfitters of Southern Utah, we believe that the more comfortable you feel, the better you are able to enjoy the beauty and solitude of the canyons. Supplies are brought in by horses, allowing you the freedom to explore unburdened by a heavy pack. At comfortable base camps, we gather for delicious meals and to discuss prehistoric Anasazi Indians, historic use of the canyons, the forces that have shaped the land, and the plants and animals that make their homes here. Each day brings new possibilities, including discovering the slickrock country above the canyon, wandering up narrow side canyons, swimming, or just having a day to yourself. You will have plenty of time and space to enjoy the beauty and peacefulness of the land and return home deeply impressed by the wilderness of the Escalante.
The biggest adjustments for most are our elevation of 5000 ft. and walking on uneven ground. The walking is on sand, slickrock, and the river bottom, often with frequent river crossings. The day hikes vary in length and intensity. We start our day hikes together and as interest and ability varies we split into smaller groups (on a trip of 9 guests there are three guides).
