Where homesteaders and miners once carved out their precarious existence, the Middle Fork traces its route. It is an area of natural wonders and home to elk, mountain goats and Bighorn Sheep. Beginning in the spectacular Sawtooth Mountains of Idaho, the first portion of the river is small and clear-running through chutes and channels. Each day on the Middle Fork is filled with natural wonders, where you'll visit hot springs, relics left by early settlers, and view ancient pictographs left by early Indians. In early season, high water is suited for the hearty adventurer. By July, moderate technical whitewater is good for all experience levels. July to September is also the season for the upriver salmon run, so fishing is good, to say the least. You can choose your own level of involvement by riding on a comfortable 18 foot raft piloted by an experienced guide, or try your hand in an inflatable kayak or guided paddle boat. Action Whitewater Adventures, your tour leader on the Middle Fork, learned rafting from Western River Expeditions and is a highly skilled operator in this technically challenging river.
