Bitterroot National Forest In the Bitterroot Valley, average temps in June, July, & Aug. are 70-85 degrees F in the day and 40-50 degrees F at night. At higher elevations, temps are 10 degrees lower with frosty nights and snow at any time of the year. July & Aug. are warm and dry with extended periods of little or no rain. In the valley, average precipitation is ~1"/mo. June is the wettest month; thunderstorms are frequent throughout July & Aug. Snow depth varies from 2-6 ft. in the Sapphire range and 4-10 ft. in the Bitterroot Mts. Snow begins to accumulate in Oct. and may last until July at higher elevations.
