Roosevelt National Forest ![]() Located in the Rocky Mountains and foothills of north central Colorado, the Roosevelt National Forest is confined to the eastern side of the Continental Divide. Topography on the forest varies from rolling hills around 5,500' to snow covered mountain peaks at over 14,000' in elevation. Some campgrounds can be found as high as 12,000'. Terrain on the forest varies from gentle-sloping foothills and open forest, to rocky steep slopes and wind-swept tundra. Trout fishing is very popular and the upper stretch of the river west of Poudre Park is the Cache la Poudre Wild and Scenic River because of its outstanding recreation and scenic features. Enjoy camping, picnicking, fishing, hiking, and white-water rafting and kayaking in late spring and early summer. Canoe/flat water enthusiasts can enjoy lakes found throughout the forest. Camping, hiking/horse riding, fishing and hunting, mountain biking, are other activities. Most forest wildlife is not restricted to one ecosystem type, and can be found ranging throughout the mountains. Guanella Pass, Peak to Peak, Mount Evans, Cache la Poudre-North Park, and Pawnee Pioneer Trails byways are designated scenic byways for their spectacular scenery, wildlife, or history.
