Big Cottonwood Canyon was carved by powerful rivers. The road which follows their meandering path is a designated Scenic Byway. Big Cottonwood Canyon provides myriad hiking and rock climbing opportunities. The canyon is a straight shot up this road. Big Cottonwood Canyon is administered by the Wasatch National Forest. It is a watershed area and dogs or other animals are not allowed.
