Moose Hill Wildlife Sanctuary

Moose Hill Wildlife Sanctuary become the first wildlife sanctuary in North America in 1916. With the help of the Massachusetts Audubon Society, over 2,000 acres of critical wildlife habitat are preserved and interpreted for all to enjoy. With its abundance of educational programs, Moose Hills is truly an outdoor classroom. Over 25 miles of walking trails are a great way to explore the Wildlife Sanctuary. In the vernal pools and look for amphibians such as salamanders and listen to frog and toad mating calls. Birdwatching is a popular activity. You may see white-breasted nuthatches, ravens, prarie warblers, black and white warblers, scarlet tanagers, blue birds and woodcocks. In the winter, visitors enjoy crosscountry skiing, snowshoeing, and looking at animal tracks. Maple sugaring is performed here seasonally, and fresh maple syrup is sold on the premeses.
