Wrangell-St. Elias National Park ![]() The Chugach, Wrangell, and St. Elias mountain ranges converge here in what is often called "the mountain kingdom of North America." This largest unit of the national park system, a mere day's drive east of Anchorage, includes the continent's largest assemblage of glaciers and the greatest collection of peaks above 16,000 feet. There are remote valleys, wild rivers, scarce-visited mountains, and a great variety of wildlife including wolves, bald and golden eagles, and grizzly bears. Mount St. Elias, at 18,008 feet, is the second-highest peak in the Saint Elias Range; Canada's 19,550' Mount Logan is the highest mountain in the range, and is the second-highest summit in North America.
