Peru Peak Wilderness ![]() Peru Peak Wilderness is located in the Green Mountain National Forest. Peru Peak Wilderness Area is part of the White Rocks National Recreation Area located on the northern half of the Green Mountain National Forest's Manchester District. This area offers unique and diverse recreational opportunities and is rich in cultural history. Both Native Americans and European settlers relied on the natural resource in the area. Until the 1930's, the entire area was used for farming, intensive logging, industry, and settlement. The forest may be the third or fourth forest to occupy the area in the last 200 years. Much of the area was owned by a large logging company from the early 1800's to the 1930's. Forests were first cut for softwood lumber, then for charcoal production. Since 1900, the emphasis has been hardwood sawlog and pulpwood production. Hiking is a popular way to explore this wilderness. Winter opportunities include cross-country skiing, dog sledding, and snowshoeing.
