Paddy Creek Wilderness

The Paddy Creek Wilderness within the Mark Twain National Forest is best experienced by hiking its many miles of trails. The 19-mile Big Piney Trail winds through the Wilderness and offers a good variety of Ozark terrain. The Big Piney Trail can be accessed at Paddy Creek Campground and Picnic Area and at Roby Lake Picnic Area. No mountain bikes or motorized vehicles are allowed on trails within the Wilderness. Horseback riders using the Big Piney Trail may set up camp at the Big Piney Trail Camp. It is located about one mile east of Paddy Creek Road on County Road 2800.

For hikers, the Wilderness offers beautiful Paddy Creek Trail, a one-mile trail that starts and ends at Paddy Creek Picnic Area. The short trail runs along Paddy Creek, climbing steep bluffs on the creek's south side. These bluffs provide a scenic overlook of Paddy Creek. The trail dips and crosses the creek so visitors should expect to get their feet wet.

Recommended Activities

  • Hike Paddy Creek Trail to check out the scenic overlook atop the creek's bluffs.
