Superior National Forest ![]() Superior National Forest is located in northeastern Minnesota's arrowhead region and stretches for 150 miles along the Canadian border. This wilderness of pine, fir, aspen, birch, maple, berry patches, and wildflowers is home to wolves, black bears, moose, loons, and migratory birds. Superior offers trails varying in length and difficulty from relaxing hikes of just a few hours to extended trips of a week or more. There are canyons, cascading waterfalls, and panoramic views from 1,000 feet above Lake Superior. Boating, canoeing, and fishing opportunities are nearly endless on the more than 2,000 lakes and streams found within the forest, and many of these waterways offer some of the country's finest fishing for walleye, northern pike, and smallmouth bass. The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness is located here. Northwoods winters are ideally suited to winter sports such as cross-country and downhill skiing, snowshoeing, ice fishing, skating, and sledding.
Two scenic drives include the Forest Mosaic and the North Shore Discovery Tour, where you can learn about the evolution of this northern forest and hear stories of the early settlers of the late 1800s.
