Eldorado Canyon State Park

Hidden in the foothills southwest of Boulder lies a jewel of the State Park system, Eldorado Canyon. Massive rock formations rise abruptly some 1500 feet above the canyon floor, and the sunlit lichen-colored walls remind one of actual gold! Eldorado Canyon State Park has it all - technical rock climbing, streamside picnic areas, and trails with panoramic vistas - all encompassed in a magnificent canyon setting.

Recommended Activities

  • Rock climb along the sheer red sandstone canyon walls, keeping an eye out for nesting golden eagles, red-tailed hawks, and prairie falcons.
  • Take a wildflower or sensory-adventure walk and expand your knowledge of natural history.
  • Have a picnic under an old forest canopy along the banks of the snow-fed waters of South Boulder Creek.
  • Mountain bike, horseback ride, or hike one of the many trails to a panoramic view of Crescent Meadows.
