Holly Springs National Forest ![]() Forming a majestic gateway to over one million acres of unspoiled timberland, moss-draped oaks and stately pines frame each path Holly Springs National Forest. Visitors come here for camping, fishing, swimming at Chewalla Lake and for a more primitive experience at Puskus Lake. The forest is located in north central Mississippi, less than one hour southeast of Memphis. About 147,000 acres of Forest Service lands are intermingled with private lands between Oxford and Holly Springs. Within the Forest are over 40 lakes constructed by the Soil Conservation Service. Even though built for flood prevention and erosion control purposes, the lakes provide abundant recreational opportunities, especially warmwater fishing from the banks or from small boats.
