Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area Jones Bridge Unit For thousands of years, humans hunted, gathered, fished and farmed in this unit. The Native Americans relied on the natural environment for all their needs. River cane was woven into baskets. Quartz stones were chipped into arrow points. Nuts and seeds were collected to eat. As you start on the trial you might hear the roar of traffic on the steel and concrete bridge just downstream; a hundred years ago, Mr. Johnson's slow and silent ferry carried travelers across the river. Looking at the mouth of Mulberry Creek, you can see the dark "V" pointing downstream. This is the remains of a fish weir of fish trap. Early settlers used this to harvest fish.
