Summit
Sunrise and sunset are both amazing events here. Arrive at least one half-hour before each to watch the nearly magical change in colors. The Summit area offers excellent trails that lead to good sunset locations.

Walks to Hosemer Grove offer a good chance to see rare Hawaiian forest birds.



Permit Information
Permits for the Wilderness campgrounds in the Summit area are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Wilderness cabin permits are allocated through a National Park Service lottery system.

Directions
The Summit Region is accessed by roads 377 and 378.

Information Center
The Haleakala Visitor Center features cultural and natural history exhibits, and books, maps, and postcards are available for purchase. Rangers are also available to help you plan your explorations.
