Florida National Scenic Trail

5 - Osceola National Forest
Cypress, black gum, bay and pine trees stand tall to greet you as you enter the Oseola's marshy terrain. You will hike through forested woodlands and swamps. The remnants of old growth cypress provide important habitat for many plant and animal species.

During the winter, robins are seen by the thousands in the Osceola National Forest. They return to Florida each winter in search of warmer weather where a favored meal of lovebug larvae is easily found. American swallow-tailed kites soar over open pine woodlands and cypress swamps in spring and summer. Near dusk or dawn, you may be lucky enough to spot a wild turkey.

For camping, the most highly developed campground in the forest is Ocean Pond Campground. For more primitive camping try East Tower, West Tower or Hog Pen Landing.
