2 - Lake Okeechobee
As you hike around either Lake Okeechobee, you will encounter locks and pumping stations that control floods, protecting the land around the lake. Birdwatching is phoenomenal here; you will see herons, kites, egrets, sandhill cranes, meadowlarks, and other waterfowl and songbirds. The terrain varies from marshlands to small islands. Annually in November, hikers make the big "O" hike around Lake Okeechobee.
Campgrounds are abundant around Lake Okeechobee.
