Wyoming
The CDT enters southern Wyoming in the Medicine Bow and Routt National Forests of the Sierra Madre Mountain Range, where it crosses Battle Pass and travels north to overlook the nearly deserted copper-mining town Encampment, before entering the Great Divide Basin. It then moves through the west side of the spectacular Wind River Range before entering the craggy mountains of the Teton Wilderness. In Yellowstone National Park, the trail crosses between the glassy, blue-green surface of Yellowstone Lake and the white rapids of the Firehole River, wanders past the 140-foot explosions of Old Faithful Geyser and traverses the Summit Lake Trail, before entering Idaho. Most of Wyoming's trail is inhabited by the long-tailed weasel, coyote, wild horse and antelope, and is home to the Moose.
