Darby Ranger District
The Darby Ranger District was established in 1899. The boundaries of the District have changed numerous times. With the Great Idaho Burn of 1910, fire suppression on the Darb District became a focus. The construction of lookouts and agreements with local ranchers and miners to fight fires dominated the efforts of the District.

The most well known and visited site on the Darby Ranger District is Lake Como, a natural lake that was dammed in the early part of this century as part of a major irrigation project. Today, the lake is the most intevsively used water recreation site on the Bitterroot National Forest.
