Green Mountain National Forest

Middlebury & Rochester Ranger Districts
The north half of the forest extends from U.S. Route 4, northeast of Rutland, to State Route 17, in the Town of Bristol. This region is home to Breadloaf and Bristol Cliff Wildernesses. While Bristol Cliff can be hiked in one day, Breadloaf offers days of great hiking and backpacking. This section of the Long Trail is difficult but popular, well worth the effort.
