Bridger-Teton National Forest

Bridger East
The eastern division is composed of the Wind River Mountains, which contain the Bridger Wilderness. Stretching over 85 miles, the Bridger National Forest eastern division is as challenging and spectacular as its location suggests. The Wind River Mountains are a result of erosional processes which carved the peaks after enormous compressional forces within the earth thrust a gigantic granite block skyward. Glacial action was the primary erosional force to act upon the Bridger National Forest eastern division, creating glacial cirques, kettles, U-shaped river valleys, hanging valleys, and over 1,300 lakes. Seven of the ten largest glaciers remaining in the contiguous United States still work upon the Wind River Mountains.

Recreationists will find a multitude of opportunities within the Bridger National Forest eastern division. Backpackers and rock climbers explore the high country of the Bridger Wilderness. Fishermen seek a variety of sport fish in the many lakes and streams. Hunters pursue the abundant game; and off-road vehicle enthusiasts can explore hundreds of miles of non-wilderness roads and trails.
