Mount Desert Island
Most visitors spend their time on Mount Desert Island, where you can climb coastal mountains for sweeping views, walk along the rugged coast, or meander through hardwood and spruce/fir forests.
Many begin their explorations with a ranger-led interpretive program at the Hulls Cove Visitor Center.
Permit Information
No backcountry camping is permitted in Acadia.
Directions
Take I-95 north to Bangor; 1A east to Ellsworth; Route 3 east to Mount Desert Island.
Information Center
The Hulls Cove Visitor Center offers information, a film, publications, and activity schedules. Other Information/Ranger Stations are located at Thompson Island, Seawall, and Blackwoods.
