Bitterroot National Forest Choose from among several properties in the Bitterroot Forest, from lonely fire lookouts perched atop a mountain to quiet cabins nestled deep in the forest. With the exception of a few cabins, do not expect the modern conveniences. A permit is required to rent the cabins and lookouts. Permits are issued on a first-come, first-served basis to anyone 18 years of age or older. There is a non-refundable rental fee charged for the use of these facilities. For reservations, call on/after March 15th for dates April 1st thru October 1st. Call September 15th for dates October 1st thru April 1st.
East Fork Guard Station Region: Darby Ranger District Winter access may require 3/4 mile travel by snowmobile or skis/snowshoes. Electricity & firewood provided. 8 person capacity. McCart Lookout Tower Region: Darby Ranger District 1.5 mile easy trail access from end of road. Lookout restored to 1930's era. No water available. Ideal family getaway. 4 person capacity. Twogood Cabin Region: Darby Ranger District Range line cabin built in 1952. Water, woodstove, firewood, propane cooking stove, kitchen utensils.
