Haleakala National Park The two regions of the park are not directly connected by road. Both can be reached from Kahului. The Summit Region is a 3-hour round-trip drive from Kahului via roads 37, 377, and 378. The Kipahulu Region lies at the east end of Maui, between Hana and Kaupo. Follow Hwy 36 (a curvy, often wet road) 90 mi from the resort areas of Wailea or Kaanapali, and 60 mi from central Maui (~3-4 hours each way). A partially paved extension of this road, Hwy 31, goes around the dry side of the island, past Kaupo to Ulupalakua; it can be hazardous or closed during stormy weather. For further directions go to:
