Green Mountain National Forest Green Mountain National Forest is broken into 2 sections: 1) The south half (Manchester Ranger District) extends from the Vermont-Massachusetts border to State Highway 140 in the Town of Wallingford. To the Manchester Ranger District, take Hwy. 7 south from Rutland. 2) The north half of the forest (Middlebury & Rochester Ranger Districts) extends from U.S. Route 4, northeast of Rutland, to State Route 17 in the Town of Bristol. From Rutland, US highway 7 north leads you to the west side of Middlebury & Rochester Ranger Districts while taking State highway 100 will lead you to the east side. For further directions go to:
