Wrangell-St. Elias National Park
Operating Hours
Open year-round. Winter: 8 to 4:30, Monday - Friday. Summer: 8 to 6 daily.
Visitation
Highest in the summer.
Permits
Backcountry permits are not required, but travelers are encouraged to complete a "Backcountry Itinerary" which is available at any park office. ATV permits are required. Sport hunting is only allowed within the National Preserve and must be conducted in accordance with state law.
Visitors Center and Programs
Visitor Center: There is a visitor center at park headquarters, which is located at Mile 105.5 Old Richardson Highway. Smaller exhibits and informational displays are located at the Yakutat, Slana, and Chitina Ranger Stations.
Food Supplies and Concessions
Food/Supplies: Groceries and all other supplies are available in Anchorage and Valdez. Most food and supplies are available in Glennallen and Tok. Limited food and supplies are available in Chitina, McCarthy, and Slana.

Additional Information
Two unpaved roads enter the park. On the Chitina/McCarthy Road, high-clearance 2WD vehicles usually can make the trip in summer. The road is generally not maintained in winter.
