Open year-round.

Visitation
Highest in October, at height of fall colors.

Permits
Obtain free permits for use of the backcountry Adirondack Shelters from the Visitor Center on a first-come, first-served basis. Obtain rock climbing permits from the Visitor Center. Make group climbing reservations up to 5 days in advance; call the VC.

Visitors Center and Programs
Visitor Center: The Visitor Center features an exhibits area and a bookstore. Visitor Center phone is (301) 663-9388.

Programs: Interpretive programs are offered year-round. Educational programs are available to groups by advance reservation on weekdays. Some interpretive programs require reservations. All educational programs (school groups, etc.) require reservations. Basic orienteering (map and compass reading) courses are offered at the park Visitor Center in March and November.

Food Supplies and Concessions
Food/Supplies: Food and limited supplies are available locally in the town of Thurmont, Maryland.

Concessions: There is a seasonal concession facility in Cunningham Falls State Park, immediately adjacent to Catoctin Mountain Park.

Visitor Impact
Park Central Road, the main road through the park, is closed in the winter months. Part of Manahan Road is also closed

in the winter months. Although this limits vehicle access, it does provide cross-country skiing opportunities!
