Highest early June through mid-Sept.; July is the most crowded.
Permits
Backcountry permits not required. Park Service recommends filing a Backcountry Planner, used for emergencies, at King Salmon and Brooks Camp Visitor Centers. They also loan out Bear resistant food canisters, for free.
Visitors Center and Programs
Visitor Center: King Salmon Visitor Center, next to airport terminal in King Salmon, is open year-round. Brooks Camp Visitor Center, Naknek Lake near the mouth of Brooks River, 30 air miles from King Salmon, is open 6/1-9/17. Three Forks Visitor Station, 23 miles from Brooks Camp on the only road in the Park, is open early June to mid-September, weather and river crossing conditions permitting.
Programs: At Brooks Camp, in summer: evening programs; ranger-led cultural walk; guided bus tour to the Valley of 10,000 Smokes (reservations by calling Brooks Lodge: 800-544-0551).
Food Supplies and Concessions
Food/Supplies: Meals are served at Brooks Lodge and are available for all visitors to Brooks Camp. Brooks Lodge Trading Post sells white gas (no propane), fishing gear, T-shirts and sweats, some snack foods, souvenirs, and other limited supplies Jun.1-Sep.17.
Concessions: Katmailand provides food service.
