Busy year-round, with peaks during summer months and winter holidays.

Permits
Permits for the Wilderness campgrounds in the Summit area are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Wilderness cabin permits are on a lottery system run by the park. See the lodging and camping facilities section for details.

Visitors Center and Programs
Visitor Center: The Haleakala Visitor Center features cultural and natural history exhibits. Books, maps, and postcards are available.

Programs: Special stargazing programs are conducted in the Summit area during the summer months. Special all-day and half-day hikes, three-day service trips, and full-moon hikes are occasionally offered. Check at park headquarters or call (808)572-9306 for current schedules. Cultural demonstrations occur occasionally in the Kipahulu area. Check at the ranger station or call (808)248-7375 for current schedules.

Food Supplies and Concessions
Food/Supplies: No food, supplies, or gasoline are available in or near the park.

Concessions: Books, maps, and postcards are available at the visitor center.

Visitor Impact
More than one million people from across the world visit the Haleakala Summit each year, while a half million visit Kipahulu. It is vital that all visitors help protect this beautiful, fragile terrain by using only designated trails, leaving all natural features in their place, and using proper trash receptacles.
