Operating Hours
Open year-round. Wheeler Park Scenic Drive is closed in winter.

Visitation
Highest in summer; lowest in January and February.

Permits
Backcountry registration is free and voluntary. Visitors encouraged to check-in at visitor center before departing. Backcountry camping prohibited within 1/4 mile of any developed site within Wheeler Peak or Lexington Arch day use areas or in bristlecone pine groves.

Visitors Center and Programs
Visitor Center: The Visitor Center is located on NV Hwy. 488, 5.5 miles from the town of Baker and half a mile inside the park boundary. It houses exhibits, two short audiovisual presentations, the Great Basin Natural History Association bookstore, and a concession gift shop and cafe.

Programs: Campfire programs, guided Bristlecone hikes, and kid's programs are offered Memorial Day to Labor Day. The Great Basin Natural History Association offers several lectures and workshops in the summer. Cave tours are limited to 25 per tour. Holiday weekend cave tours often fill early in the day.

Food Supplies and Concessions
Food/Supplies: A cafe is open from April to October. Restaurants and a small grocery store are available in Baker.

Concessions: A gift shop is open from April to October. Gas stations are available in Baker.

Visitor Impact
Pets must be kept on a leash (6' or less in length) and/or under control at all times. Pets are not allowed on the trails.

Additional Information
Most roads and trails are closed during the winter months due to snow levels. Much of the park's scenic backcountry is at elevations of 9000 feet and above; as a result the hiking season here is typically limited to the months of June through September. Cave tours are limited to 25 per tour. Holiday weekend cave tours often fill early in the day.
