Permits
Backcountry camping and horse packing permits are required; call (970) 374-3000. Fees and non-commercial river permits are required for private whitewater river trips on the Green and Yampa rivers; call (970) 374-2468.
Visitors Center and Programs
Visitor Center: The Headquarters Visitor Center contains exhibits on the geology of the river canyons and the human history of the park, and provides information on park activities. Quarry Visitor Center features exhibits on the Jurassic dinosaurs that once lived in the park, the ecosystems in which they lived, and the science of paleontology.
Programs: Brief ranger talks about dinosaurs and paleontology are presented at the Dinosaur Quarry Visitor Center every day during summer months.
Food Supplies and Concessions
Food/Supplies: No food or other supplies are available within the monument. Full services are available in Vernal, Utah and Craig and Rangely, Colorado. Limited supplies and services are available in Dinosaur, Browns Park and Maybell, Colorado, and Jensen, Utah.
Concessions: The nonprofit Dinosaur Nature Association operates bookstores at Monument Headquarters and Dinosaur Quarry visitor centers. Park-approved commercial river concessionaires provide whitewater trips down the Green and Yampa rivers.
Visitor Impact
The desert is fragile. Think about your impact, multiplied by hundreds of thousands of people each year. Set a good example and learn about the special nature of the desert.
