To fish a valid Virginia fishing license is required.

Visitors Center and Programs
Visitor Center: Hungry Mother State Park maintains one Visitor Center.

Programs: Regular weekly interpretive programs at Hungry Mother are available mid-June through Labor Day and include canoe tours, nature hikes, night hikes, Critter Crawl (aquatic sampling), guest evening programs, interpretive trail rides, campfires storytelling and junior naturalist programs. Monthly programs during the summer season include children's fishing tournaments, folk dancing and music.

Food Supplies and Concessions
Food/Supplies: A full-service, park-operated restaurant called, The Restaurant, is open daily 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. (9 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays). A gift shop, located adjacent to The Restaurant, offers a variety of crafts, books, gifts and novelty items.

Concessions: The beach and snack bar are open 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. from Memorial Day through Labor Day only. Boat rentals for paddleboats and rowboats stay open weekends through October (weather permitting). You may also rent horses from Hungry Mother Riding Stables .
