Dauphin Island Audobon Sanctuary ![]() Approximately 164 acres were set aside for the Dauphin Island Audubon Sanctuary by the persuasion of avid birder and conservationist Dr. Wilson Gallared. These acres consist of maritime forest, marshes, dunes, lakes, a swamp, and a beach. The sanctuary serves as the first landfall for neotropical migrant birds after their lengthy flight across the Gulf from Central and South America.
