The beautiful surroundings of Pipestem are laced with miles of hiking and bridle trails, scenic overlooks and recreational opportunities. Among the abundant outdoor sports, the most popular include horseback riding, swimming, tennis on lighted courts and golf on an 18-hole championship course, a 9-hole par three and a miniature golf course. Giving added dimension to the outdoor activities are fishing, hiking and paddle boating, while the McKeever lodge indoor swimming pool with adjacent suana, exercise and game rooms provide indoor recreation for athletic park guests. Year-round nature and group recreational activities are also offered for those who like movies, games and dances or who want to familiarize themselves with area flora and fauna.

The winter months do not bring an end to Pipestem's wide variety of recreational activities. The park's sled run with rope tow, winter horseback riding, cross-country skiing and close proximity to downhill ski facilities all combine to make pipestem truly a four-season resort.

Many surprises are held within the rugged setting of Pipestem Resort State Park. Nestled in the forested hills near the gorge is an outdoor amphitheater which provides a beautiful setting for weekend summer evenings entertainment such as musicals, plays, choral groups and other performers. Nearby, the park's Canyon Rim Center features a West Virginia art and craft retail shop and demonstration area highlighting the popular hand-crafted items that have made West Virginia world famous.
