Frontcountry campgrounds are generally open Memorial Day to Labor Day, first-come, first-served and cost $6-16 per night. Water, vault or flush toilets, and garbage collection are provided at all national forest campgrounds on the Seward and Sterling Highways. Visitors may stay a maximum of 14 consecutive nights (3 nights only at the Russian River Campground during the red salmon runs in the Russian River). Backpackers can pitch tents anywhere in the backcountry; be respectful of those who have reserved public use cabins by pitching your tent at least 200 feet away.
