Boston African-American National Historic Site
Black Heritage Trail This 1.6 mile urban trail connects 15 sites of historical significance to African-American heritage in Boston. Sites include African-American churches, Underground Railroad stops, and one of the nation's first interracial schools. Lewis and Harriet Hayden House This historic home was once an Underground Railroad station, where Hayden and his wife sheltered countless fugitive blacks escaping slavery in the south. Robert Shaw and 54th Regiment Memorial This bronze memorial was erected to commemerate the 54th Regiment of the Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, the first black regiment to be admitted to Union forces.
