Gates of the Arctic National Park

Anaktuvuk Pass
This Nunamiut Eskimo village lies entirely within the park boundaries. It was a post for nomadic hunter/gatherers traveling from forested southern mountain slopes to the Arctic coast.

Caribou, Grizzly Bear, Black Bear, Wolf, Moose, Dall Sheep, Wolverine
The park contains major portions of the range of the western arctic caribou herd, and is home to many other species of large mammals.

Frigid Crags & Boreal Mountain
These mountain peaks are the "Gates" between Alaska's central Brooks Range and the Arctic regions of the far north.

North Fork Koyukuk
This is one of many rivers crisscrossing the park. It runs directly between Frigid Crags and Boreal Mountain, the Gates of the Arctic.
